Way back in the 80s before the likes of the Mercy Johnson's and the Ini Edo's ever graced our screens, they use to be other beautiful divas who then rocked the Nigerian movie industry.
Liz Benson was one of such diva's. But after her last on-screen appearance in 2007, she went MIA ( missing in action ) but then she came back again in 2014 when she featured in Stephanie Linus's movie - ‘Dry’ and also in another movie - " Hilarious Harry " ( by another producer though ).
Today, Lizzy isnt the only pretty diva now missing in action though, there are other Nollywood Actresses who suddenly stopped appearing on screen - As a matter of fact quite a lot of them.
And so for that reason, we figured today that we revisit 10 of such names and faces - you know, just take you down memory lane and relive how its use to go down in the Nollywood before the new school diva's and sweet hearts ever came on screen. Enjoy...
1. Grace Amah
Remember her ? The once petite Grace Amah who started acting in her early years and is known for her innocent looks and playful roles. The Nollywood actress went missing in action a few years ago after she took a child-delivery break.
Although she has been sighted in a few social events, she hasn't taken any screen role. She is most probably busy taking care of her self, body physique and all and as well as her beloved son and hasn’t given a second thought to going back to her first love - Acting !.
2. Regina Askia
You remember the Akwa- Ibom actress with the beautiful face and remarkable eyes ? Hello guys ! - Yea, I know y'all still do. She was no doubt one of the most beautiful faces to have ever graced the Nigeria movie industry and silver screen.
But it don't seem like the former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) yes she was! it doesn't seem like she will be coming back to the Nollywood screens anytime soon. She remarried ( second husband ) and relocated to the USA where she now lives happily working as a nurse. At a time she was in the country with her lovely daughter, but it was for another course.
3. Hilda Dokubo
Remember her ? The lady with the enormous curve ? Yea that's her. She started acting professionally in 1991 and was nicknamed "Bakassi" due to her huge curves
She left Nollywood, to co-ordinate a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in Rivers State, which was targeted towards helping the youths of the state. Quite inspiring!
She was later appointed to serve in the cabinet of the then Governor of Rivers State - Governor Peter Odili and she did pretty well although it cost her second marriage, which is rumored to be under reconstruction.
She now resides in Port-Harcourt with her two sons Tuvi and Onome and is yet to speak on her come back into the Nollywood movie industry.
4. Victoria Inyama
The Abia State born diva, known for her eloquent tones and acting prowess which gave her a lot of acting roles back then.
Vicky once had a bitter quarrel with Regina Askia which made headlines, after that she relocated to the UK, and got married. Currently, she is said to be managing a catering business.
5. Sandra Achums
The “Love Without Language” star was once described as Nollywood Sweet heart, but today she is nowhere to be found in Nollywood.
After a failed marriage, Sandra relocated to Germany with her four kids and is now engaged in a private business.
6. Ndidi Obi
Every body remembers the " Nneka the Pretty Serpent " star - Ndidi Obi
She is one face Lot's of Nigerians would love to see again on TV.She kinda disappeared off screen after hitting fame with her movie Nneka the pretty serpent, and went on to make a name for herself which still stands even though she acts no more.
However, she came back on-screen a few years ago, during the 2012 AMAA in lagos saying: “I am now back to Nigeria to continue doing what I know best, and that is acting.” With that, Ndidi announced her return to Nollywood. But we are yet to see any of her new works.
7. Shan George
Shan George was introduced into acting in 1997 by her friend and close associate Blessing
Aside acting, Shan George used to be a prolific writer, and producer with hit movies to her credits like:‘Made in Heaven,’ ‘Outcast,’ ‘General’s wife,’ and London Forever among others.
But Shan abandoned acting years ago, and has now found love in singing.
8. Susan Patrick
Still remember her ? The Gapped tooth diva who came into the industry with her sizzling performance in the movie titled ‘Snake Girl’. She was one of the top Nollywood actresses who made it big in the early 90s.
However, Susan was not without her share of controversy as she was alleged to have snatched some woman’s husband while studying at the Lagos State University (LASU). Susan is no longer active in the Nigerian film industry as she is now lives quietly with her husband in Nigeria.
9. Dolly Unachukwu
( B.B.B ) Big, Bold and Beautiful. This are the best words to describe and remember the now ex - Nollywood star Actress.
Dolly Unachukwu was known to carry herself with soo much dignity that a weekly entertainment magazine referred to her as the “Madam Nollywood.”
She has since retired from the Nollywood's lights, camera and action, and now resides in the United Kingdom ( U.K ) with her family.
Dolly Unachukwu is one lady whose footprints will forever be embossed in Nollywood's hall of fame.
10. Nkiru Sylvanus
And finally on our number 10 spot is Nkiru Sylvanus - ( A.k.a Ble, Ble ) haha.
The Imo State born actress was known for her crying roles and tearing eyes in movies. She featured in ‘Egg of Life,’ ‘A Cry For Help,’ among other home videos which made her popular.
She once went off the Nollywood screen for some years in which she delved into the Imo state politics. But the good news is she won’t be missing in action anymore.
The Nollywood superstar finally honored the pleas of her numerous fans and is back into Nollywood, not just as a regular actress but as a producer!
That's the much we can take for now on 10 Nollywood's actresses now missing in action. And though we would love to see some of this faces grace our screens once again - I guess there comes a time for every act! - Peace
